How We Got Here
This is the story of how Unmuted began — and why we refuse to stop.
[This is placeholder copy — replace with the board's actual story.] Every nonprofit starts with a moment. For us, it was the moment we realized that the silence around us wasn't accidental. It was built. Maintained. Defended. And it was hurting people we loved.
We'd watched young people struggle without language for what they were going through. We'd watched adults hit wall after wall in systems that weren't designed to hear them. We'd sat with survivors who'd spent years wondering if their experience even counted. And we'd done what a lot of people do — we'd assumed that someone, somewhere, was handling it.
So we decided to build it. Not because we had all the answers — we didn't. Not because we had funding or a plan or a five-year roadmap — we didn't have any of those things either. We started because the need was real and we were there and waiting stopped making sense.
What we found when we started showing up was that people were hungry for exactly this: a place to be heard without having to earn it first. A community where their story didn't have to be packaged neatly to matter. A platform that would amplify rather than filter.
That's still what we're building. We're further along than we were. We have more to go. And we're not stopping.
